The Requirements

To be a strong fit for the HR Generalist opportunity, you will have:

  • 5+ years of HR experience including experience with:
    • Recruitment
    • Employee relations   
    • Compensation administration
    • Training and development

  • Experience with HRIS, preferably Oracle
  • Strong computer skills including experience with MS Office Suite programs, (e.g. Word, intermediate Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook); database management experience is an advantage
  • The ability to understand and leverage disparate systems and some manual processes
  • Proven project management skills; the ability to balance multiple responsibilities and priorities 
  • Experience working in or with the retail, grocery or food industry is a plus
  • Proven track record with supporting top or executive leadership levels

The Role

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Human Resources, as HR Generalist, you will provide Human Resources support for the retail/food division, including a client group of approximately 20,000 part-time (primarily) and full-time employees who support a robust portfolio of retail, grocery and club store customers.

Focusing on the full-time employees within the client group, and serving as a liaison between HR and division leadership/managers, you will take ownership of diverse responsibilities from employee relations and talent development to talent acquisition facilitation (supporting mergers and acquisitions), recruiting, comp admin and more. You will focus on the business, placing priority on supporting, from an HR perspective, the executive who oversees the division, while also balancing other priorities. You will coordinate and administer policies and procedures, take on special projects, such as research, problem resolution and ad hoc reporting, and leverage your outstanding organizational skills to juggle multiple, sometimes conflicting priorities.

Specifically, you will:
  • Assist line managers with staffing and recruiting needs (interviewing, job posting, and the hiring process).
  • Assist managers in counseling and disciplining associates and providing guidance on the process and documentation of the same.
  • Coordinate, analyze, and provide information on legal issues.
  • Assist managers in orienting new associates and in completing necessary paperwork.
  • Maintain the Policy and Procedures and Forms Manuals. Revise manuals as needed to ensure managers are provided with proper guidance on all policies and procedures. Ensure updates are distributed to organizations.
  • Administer Human Resources policies to ensure consistency with procedural changes. Maintain updates and oversee distribution to all supervisors and associates.
  • Review and update all job descriptions for all positions to ensure accuracy and to ensure compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Oversee leaves of absence.
  • Ensure all legal requirements, documentations, and deadlines are met.
  • Oversee, analyze, and review statistical reports (e.g. hire, termination, turn-over) to ensure accuracy prior to distributing to them to management and/or executive committee(s).
  • Facilitate the associate Performance Management process.
  • Handle special assignments/projects as needed and requested.
